Ruby Mountain Kennels is located just outside Elko, Nevada, in the shadows of the pristine Ruby Mountains. We are a mother and daughter team, Jackie and Vickie, who have devoted nearly a decade to perfecting our breeding of "Irish Setter Red" Giant Royal Standards and Standard Poodles. Many people are not aware of "red" poodles as they are rare, however, the color is recognized by AKC. We breed only "reds" - although there are slightly different shades as you will see by the photos of our females and puppies.

Vickie has been breeding various breeds of dogs for nearly 30 years. She is a very experienced, Certified Master Groomer. A groomer of this status must pass international judging and testing (both written and practical) on four levels and groups of dogs, cats, pesticides and grooming techniques. Over 150 different breeds of dog are studied to become a Master Groomer. The testing also covers terminology, anatomy, first aid, grooming, and coat care.

Vickie's grooming salon is located at our Kennels, as are our homes. She is pictured on the left with one of our male dogs, Sir Ralee, who is a true Giant Royal, a magnificent dog weighing well over 100 pounds and father to several puppies in the photos above.

We are very "hands on" breeders, actively involved in caring for our dogs and all of our puppies. Our puppies are raised in a home environment with a great deal of human socialization from the time of their birth. We begin our "hand raising" by giving the puppies an occasional bottle feeding before their eyes are open to assure easy bonding with people.

We begin to bathe our puppies just as soon as they are old enough as another part of our puppy socialization. Obviously not all breeders are also Master Groomers so you are not likely to find many breeders raising their puppies in this way. By the time your puppy is ready to go home with you, he or she will be familiar with bathing and be comfortable about being clean. We know cleanliness is a very important part of good health and encourage you to maintain a regular grooming schedule just as soon as your puppy settles in your home.

All of our puppies have health and temperament guarantees. Our breeding studs and bitches are OFA certified as clear of hip and elbow problems. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is a non-profit organization that collates and disseminates information concerning orthopedic and genetic disease of animals. The organization recognized that heritable diseases impact animal health and supported development of diagnostic criteria and databases for a number of genetic diseases. Ruby Mountain studs are DNA tested to assure they are free of genetic disorders which could be passed on to their offspring.
